Identification

We affirm that building this legacy first requires identifying the problem of violence (against women). We further believe that the identification of this violence encompasses raising public awareness about root causes, educating and uniting stakeholders in purposeful action, promoting the recognition of domestic and sexual violence as an important societal priority, and equipping the public (including professionals in all disciplines, children, and the general public) to respond appropriately and effectively. We assert that any meaningful response is based on the premise that effectively identifying and understanding the problem of violence (against women) will eventually move communities to pursue the changes necessary to move toward a new, violence-free environment.
