AN
INVITATION TO MEN |
| We know that most of you
would never beat your girlfriend, your wife, your lover or
your child. We know that most of you would not force sex
with a date, nor would you assault a stranger. We live and
work with you. We love and respect you. You are our
brothers, boyfriends, husbands, fathers, companions,
friends, and lovers. |
| But there are men who are
violent. There are some men who bring this violence into
dating relationships and their families, into the workplace,
into parties. These men destroy their relationships and
their families, they destroy women’s ability to feel safe
around men, and children learn about fear, brutality, and
humiliation from them. Because their acts are so violent and
so destructive, these men receive enough attention to
reflect poorly on all men. |
| The next time you hear a man
say he’s going to show her who’s boss…or you hear a joke
that perpetuates a rape myth…Say something… |
| Say that violence
against women is just plain wrong. Say that anger and
aggression do not have to result in physical assault. Say
that sexual arousal does not give license to rape. Say
always talk things out when you have a difference with your
partner. Say never punch, kick, or slap. Find your
own words. Use your own style, but Say something. |
| And the next time you see or
hear a woman in trouble, pay attention. She can’t stop
violence on her own. JOIN HER. |
