It is the purpose of the Women’s Opportunity Scholarship Fund to provide higher education opportunities to low-income women who wish to enter, or are currently attending a North Dakota college, university, or trade school. The fund assists scholarship recipients in a number of ways. It helps them to break the bonds of poverty and enhance their lives and the lives of their families intellectually, culturally, and environmentally.
In order to be eligible for this scholarship, applicants must
Be low income according to federal poverty guidelines
Be current residents of North Dakota
Plan to attend a North Dakota college, university, or trade school (certain exceptions may be made for those living on North Dakota borders).
When to apply? March 29th through June 15th of each year. Awards are announced in mid-August.
How to get an application? The application forms are available here in both Microsoft Word format (54KB) and as an Adobe PDF (254KB). Or pick up an application form from your college financial aid office in April or from your local Domestic Violence Center. Or call the CAWS Office at anytime to get on a mailing list for an application kit 1-888-255-6240. Applicants need not be victims of domestic violence or sexual assault to apply, but a “special circumstances” essay is requested, and victims of personal violence are especially invited to apply.
