Vision

It is our vision to create “a state that is safe through an integrated, coordinated continuum of response to domestic violence and sexual assault.”
As a result of the effects of domestic violence and sexual assault, women in North Dakota may sometimes live in “an environment of fear, power imbalance, and lethality”.  The purpose of the State Plan is to envision a state that is safe through an integrated, coordinated continuum of response to domestic violence and sexual assault.  By establishing a framework within which to initiate, enhance, and sustain prevention and intervention efforts, the State Plan will guide professionals and communities in creating an “environment of safety, accountability and mutual respect” for victims of violence in North Dakota.

We present the North Dakota State Plan on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault with the hope that all North Dakotans, under the leadership of professionals in communities across the state, will embrace the attitude that violence is unacceptable.  It is our further hope that the recommendations of the State Plan will be used as guidelines for developing, sustaining, and implementing effective intervention, prevention, and public policy strategies to ensure a coordinated, community and statewide response to violence against women in North Dakota.
